Transformation Tuesday: My Kitchen

I remember the first time I saw my kitchen. It had dark cabinetry, dark counters, dark walls, dark floors, and very little light coming in. Let's just sum it up and say it was dark! :)

Contrast the dark theme with my criteria for a new home which included light, bright, and airy with a white kitchen. Fortunately, I could see what it could be with lots and lots and lots and lots of paint. Did I mention lots of paint? So after moving in, the walls received numerous coats of one of my favorite colors, Frappe' by Benjamin Moore. Later, the cabinets had trim added and their turn for paint with Dover White by Sherwin Williams. And finally after all the painting, I added the pendant lights over the island that I had swooned over for some time: Ballard Designs Piedmont Lanterns in Bronze. They also come in Brick Red and the Navy, which was tempting, but I decided to choose something that would stand the test of time. I still daydream of using the navy or brick red options in a project some day like an entry, a pantry, or a laundry room...any takers?

The final project in my kitchen is an apron front farmhouse sink and new faucet. It is still on the project list, but I think it is coming up pretty soon. Can't wait!

And here are a few before and after pictures.

Scripture Influence (there is a little humor with this one :)

John 1:5: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

Transformation Tuesday: First Impressions

Did you know it takes as little as one-tenth of a second for us to make a first impression? And when it comes to our homes, we make a first impression with our guests the moment we open the door. So does your entry make the first impression you want it to?

If not, here are a few things you can do to spruce up your entry and make a great first impression:

  • De-Clutter
  • Keep paint colors neutral
  • Add a focal wall with large mirror, art, or clock
  • Add lamps (Tip: set lamps on a timer. It adds warm light and provides safety)
  • Add a few decorative accessories that you love
  • Add a decorative rug to look good and keep dirt from trekking in

Here is a look at my entry way when we purchased our home and how it has been transformed. I love the Ballard Designs 3 piece Grand Palais Mirror and the dresser I scored for $100 off Craigslist and painted Sherwin Williams Refuge. My entry provides a warm welcome to all who enter my home and makes me happy every time I walk in the front door.
